Trafalgar Allotment Project Introduction

A new project has eventually started involving Doncaster Primary Care Trust, Doncaster Youth Inclusion Program, Adwick Social Enterprise Centre, DMBC Neighbourhood Management, Extended Schools and The local Trafalgar Allotment group to breathe life back into the Trafalgar Allotments and Garden. This piece of land has suffered by fly tipping and vandalism and is currently overgrown with weeds and rubbish but has real potential to be a valuable commmunity asset. The plans include full restoration and clearence of the land with facilities for disabled people, children and the local community. The site has already been cleared using heavy plant machinery and loosened to allow the Adwick Social Enterprise Centre workforce to start constructing raised beds on site and the marking of paths for accessibility. The current plan includes marking out new allotment pitches for school and community use and is aimed at encouraging both physical activity, social interaction, increasing consumption of fruit and vegetables and utilising a local asset for the benefit of the wider community. This is being funded initially through Doncaster Primary Care Trust with a view of drawing down additional funding as the project progresses.
